About Me
Albert Gonzalez is a vocalist whose work spans both opera and musical theater. Albert has been cast in many of Nicholas Provenzale’s opera productions including Baron de Pictordu in Cendrillon, Gabriel von Eisenstein in Die Fledermaus, and Sheriff in a modern rendition of Robin Hood at West Chester University. Albert’s experience under Nicholas Provenzale cemented his interest in stage performance. Continuing his operatic journey at Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University, Albert has performed in Mary Duncan’s productions of the Classical Style as Tonic/Don Giovanni, Street Scene as George Jones, and selected scenes of Falstaff as Ford. Through these experiences, Albert has honed his craft on a more professional level.
Albert's introduction to theater was Rapunzel’s Prince in Charlie Delmarcelle’s production of Into The Woods. Here is where Albert developed more in depth character work and audience interaction. His theater experience is not restricted to musicals as he was also cast as Valentine in John Bellomo’s production of Twelfth Night. This, and acting coaching from Leonard Kelly crafted a definitive method of character expression outside of the music. Albert has continued musical theater training at Peabody with Patrick O’Donnell. His involvement with these projects has broadened the scope of his musical knowledge.
In Albert’s ambition to be a crossover artist, he has participated in many competitions for both classical and musical theater categories. In 2021, Albert competed and placed third in the NATS Regional Classical Voice Online Competition as well as third place in the NATS Regional Classical Voice Competition held in West Chester, Pennsylvania. In 2022, he was awarded both the Joy Vandever Scholarship and the Roz Patton Music Scholarship for his vocal talents during his time at West Chester University. He then competed and placed third in the NATS Regional Classical Voice Competition in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Lastly in 2023, he competed in the NATS Regional Voice Competition placing second in both the classical category and musical theater category in Saratoga Springs, New York. The multitude of awards gained is credited from the personal study under Emily Bullock at West Chester University. Now under the personal study of Randall Scarlata at Peabody, Albert will continue to bring his love of music and professionalism to stage performing and complete his Master of Music degree by 2026.
